I thought they'd be perfect for a first birthday or a baby shower and just recently I've made them a few times for a couple of different friends baby showers with good success. I've had a few people ask me how to make them so I thought I'd show you here. They're nice and easy!
All done. These are definitely a cupcake that the kids can help you make. My kids were out while I whipped these ones up but previously helped me separate the m'n'm colours. What lovely helpers, haha.
Supplies needed for Owl Cupcakes:
- Cupcakes
- Oreos
- M'n'M's
- Butter Cream Icing
To make butter cream icing:
- Whip 125g of softened butter until pale
- Gradually add 1½ cups of icing sugar / icing mixture and 1tbs milk and whip until light and fluffy. Add any colour you want at this point too.
To assemble Owl Cupcakes:
- Separate Oreo cookies using a knife.
- Stick a brown m'n'm to the white part of the Oreo
- (Apparently Australian Oreos are different to those in other countries. In Australia you'd need 2 Oreo biscuits per owl and I found they would not separate cleanly.)
- Ice cupcakes with butter cream icing.
- Put an extra blob to hold your eyes in place and shape with a knife to make the two points
- Stick your Oreo eyes on the cupcake
- Stick in an orange m'n'm in for the beak and you're done.
